Santiago is a generally a safe city and walking after dark is usually not a problem in most areas, however take the same precautions with your belongings that you would do in any other metropolitan city. Additionally, there are several areas where additional precautions should be taken at night (Santiago CEntro, Bellavista, anywhere in Western Santiago)

In Chile you can usually pay with credit, debit card and cash. However many samll business only accept cash, especially outside of Greater Santiago. The bills available are the $1.000, $2.000, $5.000, $10.000 and $20.000 pesos bilss. Normally, no store or business will accept foreign currency. ATM are easy to find in Chile, however will charge a fee og $3.000 yo $6.000 (US $5-10) every time you withdraw cash from an account of a foreign bank. ATMs are accesible 24 hours at all banks. Many pharmacies, supermarkets and gas stations also have ATMs, however without 24 hour acces. 

S$: approximately $800 Chilean pesos. In addition to paying with bilss you can also pay with coins.There are six difeerents coins in Chile worth $10, $50, $100 and $500 pesos.
