This line of research focuses on the analysis, development, and application of mathematical models, statistical methods, advanced algorithms, simulation tools, artificial-intelligence techniques, and business analytics. Its primary goal is to optimize and enhance decision-making at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels in manufacturing and service enterprises.
Operations Management is indispensable for addressing the challenges posed by large-scale, highly complex real-world systems, enabling not only their optimization but also the design of innovative solutions that improve performance and competitiveness.
This line investigates the physico-chemical and biological phenomena involved in the abatement of contaminants from gaseous and liquid phases, as well as the conversion of gases and other renewable substrates into value-added products.
It integrates principles of reactor engineering, separation processes, simulation, and process optimization across multiple scales—from reactions on heterogeneous catalysts and microbial metabolism (and its modification) to plant-scale operations, including the macroscopic scale of reactors. Within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Universidad de los Andes, the emphasis lies on generating knowledge that improves the operation and design of chemical and biological reactors for the production of value-added compounds and for the treatment of gaseous and aqueous effluents.
The Information and Energy Engineering line arises from the interdisciplinary convergence of electrical-engineering areas that underpin cutting-edge electrical and information systems. Key topics include renewable-energy conversion, electronics applied to signal and power systems, automatic control, information transmission and processing systems, and artificial intelligence.
Its objective is to advance globally relevant scientific and technological knowledge with a strong focus on applied science and experimental work.
Civil Engineering examines the entire life-cycle of planning, analysis, design, maintenance, construction, and operation of infrastructure works such as buildings, hydraulic structures, roadways, and transport facilities. It also encompasses the integrated management of these infrastructure systems, addressing issues such as disaster prevention, water-resource management, traffic control, and all works essential for economic development.
