It integrates principles of reactor engineering, separation processes, simulation, and process optimization across multiple scales—from reactions on heterogeneous catalysts and microbial metabolism (and its modification) to plant-scale operations, including the macroscopic scale of reactors. Within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Universidad de los Andes, the emphasis lies on generating knowledge that improves the operation and design of chemical and biological reactors for the production of value-added compounds and for the treatment of gaseous and aqueous effluents.
